I hear, I see, I post: April 2011

Lets create an ending one would never think of

It falls on a very cloudy day. It rained suddenly. He grabs your hand. Both of you ran as fast as possible, away from the rain. He slipped and fell onto the dirty pile of water. She let go of his hand, and ran by herself. He knocked his head, and fell into a coma. He was rushed to the hospital. She went to the shelter. He lied on the bed, motionless. She dug her bag, took out a umbrella and proceed home. He felt so helpless. She felt so insecure with him. That's the end of the both of them.

It's Good Friday!

As well as Earth Day!!! Shut the lights, save Mother Earth.

If we can get out of this economic crisis, it would be…

A miracle is all we need. Just have a sneak at how some people function while at the work place. With the OLs and their bosses, and add on with the arrival of a new temp worker, and it shall be the ingredient for gossips and bitching and more bitching. A friend was in the office where there is a new temp, and his boss is out for early lunch (with the boss even proclaiming that he is going off for a early lunch). Being the typical worker, you would leave when the boss is out of sight or just gather around and gossip. Of course, that's what he did.

So the story goes where there is this new temp staff, which looks like he is in early twenties/late teens. So perhaps waiting for enlistment or university. And the majority of the staff there do not like him. Because this temp staff seldom talk to people. Not even a smile, which is quite unforgiveable to the atmosphere there. The atmosphere in the office is quite fun, with the people there like a large group of friends, and of course, this temp staff clearly does not fit in properly. So why not, go and talk to him. Obviously, this temp staff looks a lot like those people from Hong Kong, skinny, tanned and always wear white. With dark blue/black jeans. Plus, he talk Cantonese. More like a HKer than a Singaporean.

Ok, enough of rambling about this newcomer. But I just think that this work behavior is soooo incorrect, going for extended lunch breaks. But never mind, since there is sufficient time to get to PS Café. Hahahaha

:: Episodes is going to be on your Google box starting tomorrow ::

Catch Episode starting 11 April, 11pm(HK/SIN) only on FX Asia. So basically, what is Episode all about? It is a sitcom starring Matt LeBlanc (think Joey from F.R.I.E.N.D.S), Stephen Mangan, Tamsin Greig, Mircea Monroe, John Pankow. Episodes is a joint production of BBC and Showtime, with David Crane (also involved in F.R.I.E.N.D.S) behind this series, you could be sure Episodes truly delivers and hit the perfect note. With the best comedian actor from BBC and Matt, Episodes is full of suspension, comedy and humor.

The plot revolves between Sean and Beverly who had won yet another award for their show in the UK, Lyman's Boy…and Merc wants them to reproduce a spin-off in the US (called PLUCKS!). So basically, this is where the story kicks in. One might be a tad confused if they watched the first episode, since it shows you scenes from the future, before coming back to what leads to the fight between the couple. Between the two couple, there are mistrust, hatred and betrayal.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Matt LeBlanc had been signed as one of the lead roles in this Lyman's Boy, to the dismay of Beverly. At the beginning, Beverly had not much of an impression of Matt. However at the end, both Matt and Beverly had sex in Matt's house. However, since Beverly had not much of an impression of Matt, why did they have sex? Basically because the couple (Sean and Beverly) is new in US and had difficulty settling in. Also, Beverly is highly suspicious of Sean having an affair with Morning. Morning is a co-star in PLUCKS! Who had a fabulous figure. And as usual, Beverly bitched about Morning, if she had gone under the knife, how she dressed inappropriately on set (dressing like a little slut with a low cut dress showing all). And when Beverly came to know of her age (which is unbelievable high), with Beverly claiming Morning could be her mother, she grew very jealous with Morning.

Beverly grew more and more suspicious between Morning and her husband, especially so when Morning and Sean were seen laughing and talking. Once, Sean went to a gala with Matt without Beverly (she had refused to attend) and they bumped into Morning. It was at the gala where Matt revealed that Morning used to be a porn star. Sean was caught jerking off to Morning's porn video by Beverly.

And while on the subject of porn stars, Episodes is quite sexual, since there is a scene where Matt headed to the pub with Sean. When Sean asked Matt what would he be if he's not an actor, he said he would be a porn star. Sean is really a bootlicker or sorts, since he replied wittily, "a porn star, and not an actor". And Matt said his penis is long enough to be a porn star. That's not all, where Matt even invited Sean to look at his penis at the toilet in the pub. And Sean did actually see Matt's penis! WTH!!!

One gets to see Matt's portrayal as a joy to watch, with me anticipating to see more of him. One could also get to see a softer side of him, especially so where he lost the custody of his children and Matt felt really sad. That was when Beverly had changed her perception of Matt.

The legacy of the YOG still lives on in SINGAPORE!!!!!!!!!!

Rock & Ash [photos below]

Finally…a food post!!! There's this nice food outlet called Rock & Ash which I found out by accident on twitter. Yup, twitter. It was like last week where HGW (Hungry Go Where) advertised this Rock & Ash. Anyway, Rock & Ash do have its own twitter account, https://twitter.com/#!/RockAndAsh

So me ventured further down and found out it had a few outlets already, with 1 at Novena, Marina Square and the new Clementi Mall. Intended to try the one at Novena yesterday…but I'm feeling lazy to get there. Ok, basically because there's nothing at Novena. I once worked at the area and I knew it. Great food at the area? There's donut factory, pastamania, the usual fast food joints. And no, seldom take the MRT to Orchard or Toa Payoh for lunch break…now to think about it, why we did not take a MRT ride to Toa Payoh/Orchard? Especially so when we always extend our lunch break from 12.30pm to 2pm. However, the lift took about 10 minutes at the longest to get to 30-odd floors. The express lift is NOT at all express.

Anyway, now the people working at Novena could now enjoy Rock & Ash. Jealous…please have one at Tampines soon, perhaps by 25 April 2011??? Haha, because that's when the new term starts.

Anyway, back to the food. The time I went in was quite odd, because I missed all the lunch deals (which cost 9.90). When I first heard of this establishment a week ago, I just thought it was just another "Fast-food, but not fast-food" joint. Something like Freshness Burger (which is not to my liking btw). However, the concept is quite different from Freshness Burger. Because firstly, there's free WIFI, and from the seats…there's sockets for your laptop!!! Ok…there's WIFI connection, and it's protected! That's great, because it would then not allow people who are not customers at this establishment to use the WIFI. So it is password protected(the password could be found at the receipt).

The next time the Starbucks nearby (there's 7 Starbucks in the area…Citylink mall, 2 at Marina Square, 1 at Raffles City, 2 at Suntec, 1 at Millennia Walk) is full, which is always the case for me, one could just pop-in there. With a cup of ice-blended coffee (we called it frappe-chino over at Starbucks) costing about $5 plus, and the nice ambience, it is definitely a good substitute to your usual Starbucks. Unless you had a Starbucks card, where every Thursday, there's a free shot. Oh, and I've yet to come to the FOOOD.

I ordered just a Tiramisu and the fries. A small one to be exact. The fries cost 2.90 with an additional one dollar for the dip. Judging from the menu, the lemon curd is one of their specials. And it IS ONE OF THE NICEST DIP I've HAD!!! It taste like lemon, yet it is sweet. And it is quite soothing on the first bite. There is this sensation where you felt like you are about to devour one of the freshest lemon. It is refreshing. However, after 10 odd sticks of fries with the dip, I get a bit sick of the taste. I think it is usual for me, since I grew sick of such weird mixture, of fries and lemon. The furthest I've heard of is fries with sweet and sour sauce (from McDonalds). And if the dip is 100% natural without any chemical/colouring/produced in factory, I think it is quite a remarkable feat.

Now to the fries. The fries are way better than McDonalds. Way better than Burger King. Way better than KFC. Way better than Swensen's. Is slightly better than MOS Burger. The fries are huge and thick. I had the decency to forget to check if there's any potato skin in the fries. As in potato which is semi-peel and fried together. Because that would be way better, since eating potato with the skin is YUMMY! I love to eat potato with the skin, be it boiled or fried. For the salt, I think it is a little bit saltish for me. But since I'm way tooooo sensitive to salt than the average person, this would be just fine for you.

In all, the fries are a nice alternative from your usual one at Swensen's. The way they serve the fries is interesting too. I meant in terms of the design of the paper bowl. It looked like the type of bowl one could use to buy mee sua from shi-lin. Yellow and looks interesting. I think Rock & Ash is from Taiwan or Hong Kong??? Not very sure of this.

As for the tiramisu, I could not taste the alcohol. Perhaps the alcohol content is near zero? I for one believe that tiramisu must contain alcohol, else it is not nice. But though I couldn't taste the alcohol, I could taste coffee in the tiramisu. And it is nice, with tiramisu with coffee. To make it sound wrong, it is a coffee-based tiramisu. I'm calling it coffee-based tiramisu because it contains coffee. Unless there is real high alcohol content in the tiramisu which makes me drunk, thus thinking I'm tasting coffee. And did they keep the tiramisu in the freezer? Because I could taste ice. And that harden the biscuit/sponge and thus it makes a loud banging noise when the spoon hits the plate. Felt so embarrassed when I make the nose. LOL. But this tiramisu is biscuit based, which is unlike what other tiramisu I had have recently. Not that nice tiramisu, but for the price one is paying, just over 4 dollars plus, it is quite reasonable. Think I shall head there to try the lunch time specials. The fish and chips look nice.

Soup Spoon (or is it Kitchen?)

The DUCK Wrap or something...it is YUMMY :D But if the wrap tasted like Popiah

Soup- Cauliflower with BLUE CHEESE (BLUE CHEESE...love it or loathe it)

Barcode Bakery @ Central

The bread is self-explaintory...as in the sense of the taste and texture. Unknown on the number of branches around Singapore, but there's one at Central. Seen numerous OLs with the bread on a typically weekday evening around City Hall/Lavender. Ok, so the bread is delicious and worthy of every penny. Though compared to your neighbourhood DJ Bakery bread, it is rather on the high side. But...the taste is definately worth it. Slightly cheaper than Bread Society though. The cheese bread is nice...with the thick and yummy cheese fillings...it is 100% DELICIOUS.

Are Singaporean’s getting too inclined academically?

One of the typical response a parent to his child would be, "Did you study for the test/exams?" in this case, the child had obtained unreasonable grades in his mid term test, having a Cs for all H2 subjects, with the exception of chemistry, a S. The father is so funny, where he did not know what H2 meant, and what does S meant. And apparently, his son is in JC2, since he asked his child when is his A-level exams.

So his son obtain bad results, and when his dad asked if he did not study, the son just replied a NO. as usual, who would admit they did not study? The son excuse? Because the paper was testing application of theory, which he did not understand. (think is he did not understand the question) then his father said that if this is the A-levels, would he too, obtain the same grades. And judging by the results, the father exclaimed that the son is not able to get into a local university. And all along I thought as long as you get Cs for all subjects, you will be able to get into a local university???

But again, is it too difficult to try to score well for just 5 subjects in JCs? I think it is relative easy, since GP is kind of simple, and Math (that's peanuts too, with constant practice). The only thing left are the sciences and economics, or Geography/History. So, the final verdict…A-levels are much easier. Ok, so bad to the story. It seemed much from their conversation that the son is in some school as the head of a CCA. A sports CCA to be exact. And the father asked his son, if high involvement in CCA would guarantee a placement in the local university. The A-division season had yet to begin, and that the father wanted the son to pull out from the CCA and concentrate on his studies. The father cited an example of a guy- a captain in the best water-polo team in Singapore…whom did badly in his A-level. (don't ask me if that's true…), and that that captain is not able to get into a course of his choice.

In the end, like what everybody had expected, the boy will drop his CCA, let his father engage all types of tutors for the boy. Chemistry, Biology, Math and Economics(even though econs is H1)…gosh. It is really getting out of hand nowadays.
